Jacksonville Beach Volleyball

What a great weekend it was on Jacksonville Beach!  Over 120 competitiors hit the sand for some fierce and friendly competition under various weather conditions.  Saturday we saw early morning winds and overcast skies begin the day as teams began play, only to be interrupted by a downpour of rain that lasted under an hour.  But it did not dampen the players spirits, only the sand.  Play resumed and progressed to several exiciting finals.  In the women's open division Melissa Moore and Amanda Youell survived a marathon semi final match against Jill Cox and Robin Mignerey, one of the area's most dominent teams over the years to earn a spot in the finals against Claire Yonutas and Rachael Reichert.  Even after the tiring semi, Moore and Youell had enough left to endure another close fought match and take the title.

On the men's side, Kent Ammons returned to the start of his player partner list and teamed up with Ranse Jones to do battle.  Though they had one let down during pool play, they were able to rally and reach the finals to face the team of Scott Painter and Andrew "Tank" Mahaven.  Painter and Mahaven have been consistent with multiple 3rd place finishes this season, finally made the next step into their first final.  Unfortunately they came up short in the last game, and Kent Ammons title streak continues.  Kent in on the verge of running the season.  There is only one more regular tournament for challengers to keep the sweep from happening.
