CHARLESTON TO HOST PRESTIGIOUS EXTREME VOLLEYBALL AND PERSONAL WATERCRAFT RACING EVENTS THIS SUMMER

Charleston, WV – Whether you like your summer excitement in the water or on the sand, Charleston will be the place to be the weekend of July 31 through August 2 as the city hosts prestigious professional sand volleyball and Jet Ski racing events. Both competitions will be held on Magic Island, just west of the city’s downtown area.

“One of these events would make for an exciting weekend, but we have two world-class, professional sporting competitions occurring simultaneously and at the same location,” said Mayor Danny Jones. “Magic Island will be the place to be that weekend.”

The Toyota Governor’s Cup will be one of the largest personal watercraft racing events on the east coast this year with a national championship $30,000 in cash and prizes at stake.

“We felt that Charleston’s Magic Island is a great location, a fun atmosphere and the substantial purse would entice riders from all over North America,” said A.J. Handler, promoter, Upstate Watercraft Promotions.

The Watercross Championship will include a Charleston-based family team, consisting of Trey and Cameron Frame and Drew Roush. Team Black Star was a key player in bringing this championship to the area.

The Extreme Volleyball Professionals (EVP) “Rocks the River” competition will feature top pros and players of the year Mike Dauernhiem and Rasa Virsilaite. The traveling 2-on-2 beach volleyball series features both men’s and women’s teams.
