Charleston CVB Announces 2011 SportsFEST Activities
United Way Brings Back Sunday Scoop
Charleston, W.Va. – The Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau is proud to once again host SportsFEST on Aug. 19-21, 2011. Events will take place at Magic Island, on the Kanawha River and on the Kanawha Boulevard at Haddad Riverfront Park.
SportsFEST includes the 2011 UWP – IJSBA Toyota Governor’s Cup Watercross National Championship, 2011 EVP “Rocks the River” Pro Am Beach Championship and the 2011 Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge.
The United Way of Central West Virginia will sponsor a Block Party on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which includes carnival-style activities. In addition, it will bring back Sunday Scoop – wrapping up the last weekend before kids are scheduled to head back to school.
“We’ve seen great success the previous two years with these events so we are very pleased to have them back for 2011,” said Patty Bradley, CVB president and chief executive officer. “We’re also excited to include this year the United Way Block Party and Sunday Scoop – making this the perfect staycation weekend.”

6 – 8 p.m. – Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge
8 – 10 p.m. – Saturday night concert at Haddad Riverfront Park
All day – United Way Block Party
Sunday, Aug. 21
10 a.m. – Noon – Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge
11 a.m. – 5 p.m. – Toyota Governor’s Cup UWP
Noon – 1 p.m. – EVP Pro Beach Volleyball
1 p.m. – 4 p.m. – JR. Spike N’ Splash 12 U, 14 U, 16 U
“Events such as this take a lot of time and effort,” said Bradley. “Mayor Danny Jones and the city of Charleston have been very instrumental and supportive in making this year’s SportsFEST a success.”
