AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour launches regional AVPNext developmental competition series in Chicago-area

Costa Mesa, Calif. (June 14, 2014) — The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP), in partnership with Centra360, has announced that the professional beach volleyball organization will begin hosting AVPNext developmental competitions in select cities throughout the United States this summer. The AVPNext series offers the stars of tomorrow a proving ground, a shot at a cash prize, and the grand prize of a chance to play their way into the AVPNext Championship Cup and AVP Championships at Huntington Beach.

Recognizing the talent and high participation levels in and around Chicago, AVPNext – the official developmental program for the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour – will open competition July 12 in Chicago. The Chicago-area AVPNext Championship Series is scheduled over three events, with competitions set to take place July 12 in Chicago, july 16-17 in Rosemont, IL and August 2 in Michigan City, Ind.

“The AVP recognizes the tremendous amount of enthusiasm for beach volleyball and untapped talent that exists across the country,” said AVP Director of Competition Jeff Conover. “AVPNext is an opportunity for these talented players and teams to continue to develop their games, while also offering a clear path to reach the next level of the sport.”

The Chicago-area AVPNext competition will be a series of three individual Open Division tournaments hosted by Team Chicago of the EVP League. Each event will be awarded points based on the results of each tournament, and the winning teams of Chicago area AVPNext series will be the men’s and women’s teams that have the most aggregate points collected at the completion of the series.

The overall winners of the AVPNext Chicago series will win cash prizes and a trip to Huntington Beach, Calif. to take part in the AVPNext Championship Cup. The winners of the AVPNext Championship Cup will earn an automatic berth into the smart AVP Championships at Huntington Beach, joining beach volleyball’s best for the AVP’s 2014 season finale.
