June 9, 2011 – The beautiful white sand and emerald waters of Pensacola Beach will be the perfect backdrop for a Saturday of intense beach volleyball.
Jimmy Buffett’s first-ever Margaritaville Beach Hotel plays host to the “Spike-n-Sunset” tournament on Saturday, Aug. 27. Home of the world-famous Blue Angels, the Pensacola Bay Area boasts miles of sugar-white beaches alongside a quaint downtown featuring history museums, exciting nightlife, and local shops and restaurants.
“We can’t wait to host such an elite group of athletes on our beaches,” said Ray Palmer of the Pensacola Sports Association. “We hope that after the tournament they can take the time to explore our attractions—our historic downtown, the National Naval Aviation Museum, Fort Pickens and the many great Southern, seafood restaurants.”
The Margaritaville Beach Hotel opened in 2010 on Pensacola Beach, walking distance to the shops, restaurants and nightlife along Portofino Boardwalk as well as one of the longest fishing piers on the Gulf of Mexico. The hotel features a roof-top pool with Gulf and bay views, paddleboard lessons, two restaurants, poolside tiki bar and a fitness center.
Originally incorporated in 1955, the Pensacola Sports Association is a private, not-for-profit agency and one of the oldest sports commissions in the country.
